PERSONALLY VISITED WITH LUNA & DOTTIE

Dog-friendly stays in Cornwall: two places we’ve tried

Cornwall has hosted some very good dachshund snoozes. These two stays offered different experiences: a beach-house holiday at Gwithian and a calm garden base in St Austell. Both are based on our actual stays, rather than a list of places we haven’t tried.

Our humans write the reviews; we supply the dachshund perspective. Choose a place below to read our full story without leaving this page.

Three Mile Beach, Gwithian

We stayed from 13 to 18 November 2024. Dog beds, bowls and treats, thoughtful human provisions, warm floors and a log burner made this our Gold Bed stay. Our humans also enjoyed the jacuzzi and sauna; those facilities remained untested by the dachshund delegation.

Pinetum Gardens, St Austell

Our stay from 20 to 23 July 2026 combined a comfortable room with kitchen facilities and direct garden access. Ponds, bridges, birds and plenty to discover made for a calm break, with exploration mainly on lead. It has our Bronze Bed.

Before booking

Both stays had free on-site parking. Ask the venue about current dog charges, booking conditions and the facilities in your specific accommodation. These visits took place in different years; an award describes our experience rather than guaranteeing today’s arrangements.

We were only a few months old when our humans took us to Three Mile Beach. An ambitious age to begin inspecting holiday accommodation, but somebody had to establish standards.

We were only a few months old when our humans took us to Three Mile Beach. An ambitious age to begin inspecting holiday accommodation, but somebody had to establish standards.

Our three-bedroom house came with wonderfully comfy dog beds made from lovely materials, bowls and treats. Actual treats, intended for us. An excellent opening statement.

Mum and Dad received their own selection of local sweet and savoury goodies. We support this welcoming approach, although separate hampers should never discourage sharing.

The house seemed to have everything our humans could want, and nothing appeared to be too much trouble. Our priorities were particularly well catered for: heated floors for warm paws, followed by a cosy log burner and sofa snoozes with Mum and Dad. A demanding inspection schedule, as you can imagine.

There was also a jacuzzi and sauna. These remain untested by the dachshund delegation, but our humans seemed extremely relaxed afterwards, so they must do something. We achieve much the same effect with a warm lap and a nap.

Three Mile Beach felt like a whole experience, with us included in the welcome. Gold Bed: worth taking your humans on a special trip.

Pinetum had massive gardens with plenty to discover, wander through and thoroughly sniff. We explored mainly on our leads—for the safekeeping of our humans, of course. Left unsupervised, they might wander off somewhere without us.

Our room was lovely and comfy, with direct access to the toilet. Sorry, the gardens. A particularly convenient arrangement for guests with short legs and urgent outdoor business.

There were also in-room kitchen facilities, so our food could be kept fresh and prepared on time. We take punctual meal service very seriously and appreciated giving our humans every opportunity to meet expectations.

Outside, there were ponds, bridges and birds to observe. Plenty to hold our attention, yet the whole place felt wonderfully calm and relaxing. Even our humans seemed capable of slowing down.

Bronze Bed: a comfy, peaceful stay with generous gardens for little explorers—and kitchen facilities to keep dinner on schedule. Bring a lead to keep your humans close.
